Process

How a Reddit engagement actually runs

Four phases. The first two are research and writing, the third is a weekly rhythm, and the fourth is where the compounding shows up.

Nothing here is a black box. Every artefact we produce is yours, written so that your team could run the programme without us if you ever wanted to.

The four phases

01

Listen

Weeks 1-2

Before anything is posted, we read. Every mention of your brand, your competitors and your category across Reddit’s history, sorted into what people praise, what they complain about, and what they ask for and cannot find.

  • Mention audit: your brand, your competitors, your category
  • Subreddit shortlist with each community’s self-promotion rules documented
  • The recurring questions your category never answers well
  • Which existing threads already rank in Google for your money terms

You get: A teardown document and a shortlist of communities, ranked by opportunity against difficulty.

02

Plan

Weeks 2-3

We turn the research into a playbook: who speaks, from which accounts, in which communities, how often, and what they are allowed to say. This is also where the disclosure language and the escalation path for anything sensitive get agreed in writing.

  • Account plan: founder-led, brand account, or both - with disclosure wording
  • Community calendar and a realistic weekly cadence
  • Message map: the three things we want remembered, in plain language
  • Escalation rules: what we answer, what we route to you, what nobody answers publicly

You get: A Reddit playbook your team can read in twenty minutes and argue with.

03

Engage

Ongoing, weekly

The operating rhythm. We monitor for new threads daily, draft responses, get anything sensitive approved, and post at the cadence the plan sets. Where ads are running, the same messages are tested paid and the winners feed back into the organic side.

  • Daily monitoring, with same-day alerts on anything urgent
  • Drafted comments and posts, approved before they go out
  • Ads and campaign management where in scope
  • A weekly note: what happened, what it earned, what is next

You get: A steady, visible presence, and an inbox that is never surprised.

04

Compound

Quarterly

Reddit’s payoff is unusual: a good thread keeps earning for years, and the work gets cheaper per result over time. Quarterly we look at what the back catalogue is still producing, refresh the threads that rank, and decide where the next quarter’s effort goes.

  • Which threads now rank, and for what
  • Assisted conversions and self-reported attribution - where did they hear about you
  • Content gaps worth a post of our own rather than a comment
  • The next quarter’s plan, and anything we should stop doing

You get: A compounding asset, and an honest answer about whether it is working.

What we need from you

The programme runs on your expertise. It needs less of your time than it sounds, but the time it needs is not substitutable.

  • Someone who genuinely knows the product, for roughly 30 minutes a week
  • Permission to say true things about your limitations - including where a competitor is a better fit
  • A fast yes/no on anything we flag as sensitive
  • Whatever you already know about why customers churn; Reddit will ask

What we measure

Reddit attribution is imperfect and anyone claiming otherwise is selling you a dashboard. We report a spread of signals rather than one flattering number:

SignalWhat it tells youHow we get it
Referral sessions and signupsDirect, under-counted responseAnalytics, tagged where tagging is allowed
"How did you hear about us"The honest version of the aboveYour signup form, which we will ask you to add
Thread rankingsCompounding search visibilityRank tracking on the threads we take part in

Sentiment shiftWhether the mentions are the kind you wantManual review of every mention, monthly

Questions we get asked

How much of our time does this take?

About thirty minutes a week from someone who knows the product, plus a kickoff session in week one. If a founder is doing the posting themselves, budget another twenty minutes a week for the posting itself.

Who owns the accounts?

You do. Brand accounts are created under your control, and if the engagement ends you keep them, along with the playbook, the research and the calendar.

What happens if something gets removed by a moderator?

It happens occasionally even when the rules are followed to the letter, because moderation is human. We log it, work out which rule it fell under, and adjust the plan for that community. What we never do is repost around a removal or message a moderator to argue.
