AMAs and launch campaigns

An AMA is the highest-variance thing a brand can do on Reddit. Prepared properly it is the best day your brand has on the platform. Prepared badly it is a permanent search result.

What the service includes

  • Community selection and mod relations
  • Groundwork
  • Question preparation
  • Founder prep session
  • Live-day operations
  • Follow-through

The failures are almost always the same: the wrong subreddit, no moderator relationship, a founder who answers the easy questions and disappears from the hard ones, and no groundwork - an account whose first ever post is "I’m the CEO of X, AMA!".

What the service includes

Community selection and mod relations

Which subreddit, when, and the approach to its moderators - who are the people who decide whether this happens at all. Approached early, honestly, and on their terms.

Groundwork

Months of genuine participation before the AMA, from the account that will host it. This is the part most brands skip and the part that determines the reception.

Question preparation

We predict the hard questions - pricing, the outage, the layoffs, the competitor who is cheaper - and prepare answers you are willing to stand behind in public.

Founder prep session

A working session on tone: brevity, specifics, admitting what is not good yet, and never using a marketing phrase where a plain sentence exists.

Live-day operations

We run the session alongside you - triaging questions, flagging the ones that matter, keeping the pace up, and watching for anything that needs escalation.

Follow-through

Answering the stragglers for days afterwards, documenting the commitments made, and making sure they are actually kept. The follow-through is what people screenshot approvingly.

The rules of a good AMA

  • Answer the hardest question first, and answer it properly.
  • Never say "great question". Say the answer.
  • Bring something nobody else can: a number, an internal story, a decision you got wrong.
  • Stay for hours, not for a scheduled forty-five minutes.
  • If you cannot answer something, say why you cannot - not "I’ll circle back".
  • Make no commitment you are not prepared to be held to for years. Reddit remembers.

Launches that are not AMAs

An AMA is one option and often not the right one. Depending on the product and the community, a launch on Reddit might instead be a detailed build write-up, a genuinely free tool released to a community that will use it, a transparent post-mortem of something that went wrong, or a founder answering questions in an existing thread rather than a staged event.

We will recommend the quieter version whenever it is the better one, which is more often than agencies like to admit.

Questions we get asked

Can you guarantee the AMA gets approved?

No. Moderators decide, and their answer is often no for brands without history in the community. That is precisely why the groundwork phase exists, and why we would rather start it six months before a launch than six weeks.

What if it goes badly?

Then we stay in it. The damage from a difficult AMA comes almost entirely from leaving early. A founder who keeps answering hard questions calmly for six hours usually ends the day better regarded than when they started.

How far in advance should we plan?

Three months minimum for a brand with no Reddit presence; six is better. If your launch is in four weeks and you have never posted, we will suggest a different launch motion.
