Who we help
Reddit marketing for ecommerce and DTC
Consumer categories on Reddit are dense, opinionated and deeply sceptical of brands - and they are where an enormous amount of purchase research now happens, because the alternative is a page of affiliate roundups.
The communities that matter here are hobbyist and enthusiast ones: skincare, coffee, running, mechanical keyboards, cycling, fragrance, home cooking, parenting. They have long memories, established favourites, and an immune response to marketing that is faster than anywhere else on the internet.
What actually moves product
Being in the recommendation thread
"Best X under $50" threads rank for years and get quoted by AI assistants. Being named by a real user in one is worth more than any campaign.
Founder participation, disclosed
Enthusiast communities are unusually warm toward a founder who knows the craft, answers manufacturing questions, and does not pitch. They are ruthless toward anyone who pretends to be a customer.
Answering the ingredient or spec question
Consumer categories run on specifics: formulation, sourcing, tolerances, what changed in v2. Publish the real answer and it gets cited back for years.
Handling the bad experience in public
A refund handled visibly and generously in a thread does more for conversion than the review section on your own site, which nobody trusts.
The rules are stricter here
Enthusiast subreddits typically ban vendor participation outright, or allow it only from flaired accounts on a specific day of the week. Getting this wrong is not a slap on the wrist - it is a permanent ban of your domain from the one community that matters most in your category.
So the first deliverable for a consumer brand is always the rules map: which communities permit vendor accounts, under what flair, on which days, with which disclosure wording.
We have advised brands not to enter their single most relevant subreddit, because the rules made it unwinnable. That is a real outcome and a better one than a ban.
Where Reddit Ads fit
Paid is often the faster half for consumer brands: the communities are large, well-defined and cheap to reach compared with search in a competitive retail category, and conversation placements put you next to exactly the recommendation threads you cannot post in.
The creative rule is absolute: it has to read like a post from a person. Your lifestyle campaign assets will be roasted in the comments, in public, under your paid impression.
Questions we get asked
Can we send free product to Redditors?
Only through a subreddit’s own sanctioned process, if it has one - many run structured review programmes with mandatory disclosure. Arranging it privately produces undisclosed paid reviews, which is against Reddit’s rules and, in several jurisdictions, advertising law.
What about influencers who post on Reddit?
Treat it as advertising and disclose it as advertising. Reddit communities detect coordinated recommendation patterns remarkably fast, and the resulting thread is worse than the campaign was ever going to be good.
Our category is full of dupes and counterfeits. Does that change things?
It makes Reddit more valuable, not less. Those communities are where people go to verify authenticity, and a brand that answers authentication questions publicly becomes the reference.
